If you live in the UK, you’ll be aware that there are usually only two parties that compete to run the country, and sadly in recent years, they both seem to be the same in terms of policies. In that, they are both ineffectual, disingenuous and more likely to work for corporations than the people who voted for them.

And that is my main issue here. They are voted for and paid for by the people. In a democracy, it is the people who pay for the politicians, the police, the services that are supposed to serve our society. And yet, we cannot choose leaders who will lead with strength, intelligence and compassion. We cannot speak out without being arrested by the very police we pay for. We cannot feed our children. We cannot get healthcare in time. We cannot afford to live in our own cities. We cannot stop wars that we want no part of. We cannot stop corporations destroying our planet or our bodies or our minds for profit, and all because there are only two parties that ever win elections in the UK. Because the game is rigged.

The times are changing, however. There is a rise in fascism. The Nazis it seems are having a comeback tour of the western world, and their brand of toxic lies, and violence are taking a hold of the young and the old at an alarming rate. A party like Reform offers nothing but more poverty, more death, more horrors for anyone who doesn’t fit into their sick little ideals, more scams and seedy conmen selling their snake oil to anyone desperate enough to listen. And in a world where people listen to their phones more than the truth, where knowledge has been replaced with the sick dreams of mad men, the world seems like a pretty dire place.

But there is hope. For now, it seems that there are more of us than there are of them. There are more good people on this planet than bad. There are more people with compassion, those who believe in a world that values life over profit. There are more of us who work every day to prop up the world on our shoulders and develop new ways for us to live without poverty, without fear, without war.

And there is a new party growing in this little old island that I call home, and I hope, like many others, that it will grow into a tide of change for this country that will impact the world. Because if fascism can grow in every country, then so can socialism, so can compassion, so can true democracy.

If you’re like me, and you want to see a change in the UK, then I think this new party from Jeremy Corbyn is the first step in getting a better government, better policies and a better country as a result, so I fully support them in every way I can, and I hope you will too.
